About 778,000 people aged 12 and older in the United States reported they have used crack in the past year.
A survey showed that over 42 million people in the US (more than 12 percent of the population) have used some form of cocaine in their lives, with over 10.1 million specifically using crack. This same survey showed that the number of people using crack in the month before the survey was the highest it had been in 14 years.
In Europe, the number of first-time users of crack cocaine seeking treatment increased by 42 percent over five years.
Internationally, there is also evidence that first-time users are getting younger. For example, in Brazil, a significant number of first-time crack users are teenagers, some as young as 12 and 13 years old, showing a concerning trend.
